I view psychotherapy as a collaborative process of self-discovery that is both supportive and directive. As many problems stem from either escalating emotions or efforts to avoid them, time is spent exploring and trying to understand your distress to help you create a happier and healthier way of living.
When we listen to our emotions without judgment and try to understand what they are telling us, more often than not, we can figure out what we need to regain emotional peace, balance and life satisfaction.
Developing targeted strategies to help you achieve your goals is also a large part of therapy.
People frequently try to find a therapist by googling “Find A Therapist Near Me.” While this may feel efficient, research has shown over and over again, that the outcome in therapy is greatly affected by the strength of the relationship between therapist and client. This is a relationship that is built on trust, safety and respect. It is very important that you find the right therapist – someone who you feel truly comfortable with not just someone who lives nearby.
To help initially determine “fit,” I find that it is often helpful to speak briefly on the phone to get a sense of what your needs are. You are also welcome to contact me by email.
Our first session is an initial consultation. This initial visit provides clients with the opportunity to get to know me, learn more about my approach and style and see if we are a good fit. I’ll gather information about what you hope to get from therapy and your personal history. This will help me understand you more deeply, and will make it possible for us to create a plan for therapy that will meet your needs.
